City Gym Shorts

A few days ago, myself, RonyaMai, & Amber had a City Gym Shorts sew date for Amber’s birthday. Amber taught us the ins & outs of the shorts since she had already whipped up a few pairs.

City Gym Shorts are a free & best of all easy pattern!

In the past, I haven’t been too into making garments, but it’s quite possible I had so much fun making these that I bought a serger!! I blame Amber & Mai. They had their sergers out while we were making the shorts & let me just tell you how much easier & quicker it went with serging.

Don’t you just love how my shorts turned out?? I’m pretty impressed with them, but there is a story…

After getting these babies all cut out, nicely serged, and bias tape sewn on, I headed over to the cutting table so Amber could show me the next step. When all of a sudden, we realized I had two butts! Seriously! I was so mad at myself. I even looked to make sure I wasn’t cutting two of the same pieces, but I surely did anyway!

At that point I needed to head to an appointment, take a breather, & re-group before I was going to rip them out. Good thing I had that extra time because turns out the size I cut probably would have been a little snug fitting had I cut what I was supposed to.

I ended up finishing what I had & they fit perfectly! Thank goodness! I really wasn’t looking forward to ripping them out. So sometimes two wrongs do make a right!

I do however feel like our supervisor should have better informed me of my mistake, in the beginning. If only she could talk. She was looking rather cute on the job though!

I’ll be making her a pair next!

Here’s a peek at the rest of the crew’s. Didn’t they turn out cute!

Little Lady

The perks of having a girl means there will be bloomers, & lots of them! I know there will be many more to come. My mom, step mom, & I (Rowan too of course) spent the weekend playing with different styles of bloomers. I think we have a favorite hashed out now.

Rowan wasn’t too sure about this modeling thing, but I think you’ll agree that she wears them nicely!

Granny Squares

I’m excited to have finished my first quilt since Rowan has been home! It feels AMAZING to be back to playing with fabrics & quilting. Turns out Rowan is quite a good helper!

I started this beauty while I was pregnant, for the oh so talented lady that made our gorgeous baby shower cake & cupcakes! I was thrilled when we were able to work out a trade, cake for quilt! I love being able to spread the quilt love & see other’s awesome talents, that I wouldn’t dare attempt.

For the quilting I used one of my new pantographs, Diamonds are Forever, and I think it turned out to be a perfect fit!
Now that I’m feeling completely rejuvenated…on to the next project!
What are you guys working on these days?

Hello world!

2 Months Old

It’s hard to believe this nugget is 2 months old already! I seriously don’t know where the time has gone. Well, half of it went to a month of hospital stays. Our baby girl is just growing up WAY too fast!

Rowan is 10lbs 5oz and 22.05″ long. She is the happiest baby I know. She is quite the smiley pants and has started to have conversations with us. I adore every time she wakes up to eat, that when I come over to her bassinet to pick her up she gives me the biggest smile, like she’s happy to see me. She has the biggest blue eyes, just like her daddy, & a cowlick to match too. Her daddy & I just can’t get enough of this cute face on a daily basis!

She loves reading, her Bella dog, stroller strides with mom, watching car videos with dad, helping mom quilt & sew while hanging out in her mamaroo, her wubba nub, getting dressed up (not really, but I like to think so), & eating…of course.

We’ve been home a month now, from the hospital, and her breathing has been doing great! She has been holding her O2 saturation fantastically & we are hoping to be able to take her completely off of her SpO2 monitor, by next month. As we all hoped, it seems that she truly did just need some extra time to recover from her initial meconium aspiration. It’s really been a weight off of our shoulders knowing that she has improved so much!

First finish of 2014!

I really finished Arianna’s quilt in January, but I am just now getting around to taking pictures of it before I send it off tomorrow. It’s about time, I’m a little embarrassed, I started making her quilt last year as a gift…she’s only 9 months old now! Hopefully she won’t mind too much!

I’ve known her mama, Lindsey, for years & it’s hard to believe we both have little girls now. Where has the time gone?

Arianna’s nursery has lots of beautiful purples and greens, just as her quilt does. I used some of my favorite fabrics from my stash and quilted it with my swirly turbulence pantograph.

Meet Rowan Gray!

Hey everyone, I’ve missed you greatly! We have a new, might I add, adorable, addition to the family, miss Rowan.

It’s been just short of 6 weeks since we welcomed Rowan into the world, almost 5 of those weeks were spent in the hospital.

Here I am today, 5.5 weeks old, happy as a bug in a rug!
But here’s how our journey began:
Our due date was Feb. 11, 2014. My mom flew in Feb. 7th, a few days before Rowan was due & we were hoping to have a few days sight seeing before Rowan’s arrival. Earlier that day I had been to the doctor for my 39 week check-up and I was finally 1cm dilated, but we still assumed we had a few more days, if not longer, to go.
Little did we know that miss thing had other plans. Midnight rolled around and I woke up to contractions 6 minutes apart. By 4am I was waking mom up to sit up with me. By 8am my contractions were 3mins apart so we woke the hubs up and called L&D, who discouraged me from coming in because they probably wouldn’t admit me. Fast forward another hour and I was in some serious pain & decided it was time to go in.
As soon as we got there, although I was only 3cm dilated, Rowan’s heart rate was already crashing, at 50 bpm & we were told we were going to have a baby by the end of the day. No more than an hour later, we were waiting on the anesthesiologist to come out of an emergency c-section to give me an epidural, but by that point Rowan was crashing again. At that point the team had decided I needed a c-section myself. After a failed attempt at an epidural & Rowan continuously crashing, I had an emergency c-section (intubation and all).
Rowan was born at 12:53pm weighing 7lbs 12oz & 20.5″ long. She was ressutated at birth, immediately intubated & put on a ventilator, and taken to NICU. She had serious meconium aspiration & later a collapsed lung, all which lead to pulmonary hypertension. Since I was recovering from surgery, I didn’t get to see her for 9 hours. We weren’t aloud to touch her or stimulate her in any way for a few days.
Shortly after coming into the world.
At 5 days old, Rowan was extubated & put on a CPAP, but still all “wired up” with other things. I was also finally able to hold her, after what seemed like a lifetime of waiting.
A few more days later, she was again able to step down to a nasal canula.

At that point daddy and grandma were finally able to hold her for the first time, at 1.5 weeks old.

I was discharged after 48 hours, but fortunately I was able to board for a few days until my room was needed for another patient. You never realize how much time slows down when you’re in this situation and “trapped” in a hospital 24/7, not wanting to leave your baby’s bedside.
I don’t know how parents do it when their babies are in there for months on end, although I do have to say, the whole NICU team becomes your family, their personal nurses even more so. I found such comfort, those long nights, when I would go to Rowan’s room for a simple feeding and to see her for “touch time,” to see her nurse and just be able to chat about anything and everything. It truly takes a one of a kind person to be able to work with such sick babies. I’m so thankful for them.
After 2.5 weeks, Rowan was able to come off of oxygen and come home!

Unfortunately our time home was very short lived. After 4 days home, we were back in the hospital, with strained breathing and back on oxygen. We were re-admitted to PICU, where 48 hours & a few test later, Rowan had stabilized and was moved to peds.

Throughout yet another 2 week stay in the hospital, we met with many specialists and ruled out lots of potential diagnosis. Rowan also had many studies done, which mainly revolved around her lungs & reflux, although almost all came back “normal” we are still working closely with her Pediatric Pulmonologist. We’re very grateful to have so many pediatric specialist here in Hawaii.

Her nurses made sure to keep her very stylish while she was in the hospital, with bears and hearts to keep her nasal canula in place.
48 hour before we went home, we were able to get Rowan weaned off of oxygen, although we did come home with oxygen just in case as well as an SpO2 monitor to keep an eye on her from home during the next month or so.
We will continue to have weekly follow-ups with her doctors, but at this point we are hoping that she just needed a little extra time and oxygen to recover from her meconium aspiration and pulmonary hypertension.
The last month has been absolutely exhausting between her being in the hospital and still trying to recover from my c-section. It feels SO good to be home & Bella is pretty glad to be guarding her baby again.
Thanks for all of the prayers, love, and support from everyone over the past month and a half. You guys have really helped keep me going. I’m hoping to get back to playing in some fabrics in the near future!

Happy New Years!

Hey! Remember me?

I guess it’s about time I pop my pregnant self back in here and update everyone a bit! Hopefully you guys have missed me as much as I’ve missed you 😉

So! Happy New Years! I hope everyone made it through the holidays and that everything was fabulous. The boy & I spent our first Christmas in our new home together. Although we missed our family dearly, it was a great time for us to just have each other close, before we welcome miss priss into the world.

We also had our first Christmas tree, Charlie Brown style! How I loved it so! The trash man even thanked me for not having a ginormous tree that he had to pick up 🙂
Our baby, 'Charlie brown', first Christmas!

Merry Chistmas!! It's a nice 80 degrees here in #Hawaii so I'm finally not sweating to death. & 33 weeks pregnant! #christmas #33weeks #33weekspregnant #itsagirl #babybump

On Christmas day, I was 33 weeks pregnant and sweating to death…still am. It was a beautiful 80 degrees which psychologically is a bit confusing for Christmas. All four of us (the boy, me, Rowan, & Bella) we spoiled Christmas morning, there might have even been a little blue box under the tree!!!
A day later, my BIL & SIL (practically) came to visit! We had a blast with them, being touristy & enjoying having family in, again.

A little late...34 weeks on New Years Eve, being touristy with the Inlaws. #34weeks #34weekspregnant #itsagirl #babybump
(34 Weeks)

For New Years Eve, we spent the evening getting acquainted with a Luau, which surprisingly we hadn’t been to one before. I have to admit, it was long, but much better than what I expected!
Meanwhile, in the past month, I have done a little sewing, which I will be showing you all shortly, but mainly my focus has been on nursery & baby stuff. I can’t wait to show you guys that either, especially the nursery! Eep! It’s almost finished…good thing since we are just about 3 weeks out from Rowan’s arrival.
The boy and I are getting very excited, Bella too…She has been VERY clingy the past few days, I think she knows she won’t be an only child too much longer.
So how was your New Years & what new projects are you working on?
