Oh Hey, Saturday!

Thanks to the talented ladies from Bits and Pieces Bee, I was able to piece The Beatles quote they helped me make for my dad. It’s a long over due quilt for him, especially since he is terminally ill. I think really I was just waiting for the perfect quilt idea to come along.

The idea came quite unexpectedly while browsing Pinterest one day. I stumble across The Beatles quote, “Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.” The quote spoke to me and I couldn’t seem to get it out of my head. I guess it’s most appropriate for the given situation and somehow gives me some relief when I read it. I knew right then that it was time for his quilt to begin evolving.

I don’t think I’ve ever had little packages in the mail become such an emotional part of my day, my life. Each week I walked to my mail box and clutched each envelope in my hands, slowly envisioning how this masterpiece would come together.

You have no idea how perfectly the blocks all fit together, like puzzle pieces, meant for each other.

I quilted the lyrics “I want to hold your hand” by The Beatles, which is his all time favorite Beatles song. I’m extremely impressed how Lucey performed, once again! She flows smooth as butter!

I showed dad his quilt, all I need to add is the binding, but I’m already being question when he’ll get it. I guess it’s a hit 🙂

The quilt should be ready for him next weekend. I’ll be sure to get some full shot pictures for you guys so I can show it off! I can’t wait to give it to him! Not to mention, it’s a nifty reminder of what that awesome longarm can do, that he and my step mom footed the bill for. (Can’t thank them enough!)

The other quilts hot off of Lucey, waiting for binding!

Here’s what else I’ve been playing with this evening:

Sew Bee It
Triangles
Blocks for Shanna, in {Sew Bee It}
Oh happy mail day!
Happy mail day from mom and Linderella’s Quilt Works!

Catch up + WIP Wednesday

I’m back from my little weekend getaway with the boy. Once I finally made it to GA we had a great, but too short, weekend. I’m not so sure flying on Friday the 13th was the best idea, something was just bound to go wrong. ha. Basically my plane was delayed for an hour and half, then we were able to get settle on the plane and taxi out…only about a minute into the taxi out did we stop yet again for another delay. Bah humbug.

Delayed on the runway for even longer. Just wonderful fri 13th
Although it was nice and sunny in NC, there were major storms surrounding the ATL airport and ultimately forced them to shut down for an hour. I was worried I wasn’t going to be able to catch my next flight out of ATL since it was the last flight that evening to my destination. Fortunately with a delay for that plane as well and a lot of running through the airport, I made it to the gate and got seated just in time for take off!
Of course the flight back to NC was nothing short of interesting as well when all of the trains at the ATL airport were out of service! All in all it was an awesome trip and I can’t wait to see him again soon!
Today has been the first day I’ve had a chance to get back to my sewing machine since I’ve been trying to catch up on sleep and back to the work groove.
I was able to get Solida’s, Bee a lone star(burst) finished up and get started on a few more bee blocks that are over due.

“S” has been helping me in the sewing room today and has been working on a “Halloween costume” for Bella, Princess Aurora to be exact. So of course every princess needs a “crown.” I’m not so sure how thrilled Bella is to have to participate in these shenanigans. haha.
  Poor Bella
Last night at guild, I demonstrated improv triangles. Everyone made a block and we’re putting all the blocks together for a modern Wounded Warrior quilt. I’ve been working on getting some of the blocks together this afternoon so I can get the top quilted the next time I go home.

We all had a great time sewing and laughing together. I was so proud of everyone in the group for taking the leap and letting go of traditional sewing rules! I think it was a bit tough for some of them, but the all the blocks turned out awesome! We chose to stick with red, aqua/blue, and gray and used an aqua pin-dot as the background fabric. This was a great, simple project to use up all those decent sized scraps you have laying around your studio!
