NYC take two

 Heather Ross!

Wow! So I am having an absolute blast here in NY! Heather Ross is seriously exactly how I imagined, chic, free spirit, and so down to earth! Not to mention she is absolutely hilarious. She makes you feel like you have known her forever. She is so fantastic to talk to and has a million stories to share.

Heather!

Her helper Ava is also tagging along for the week. Ava is a 26 year old, techy, artistic, bundle of awesomeness! She lives in CA full time, but travels around and helps Heather out with her various workshops, how fun is that?!

I do have to admit as Rae, Amiee, and I stood in front of Tek Serve yesterday, we spotted Heather and Ava walking down the sidewalk towards us I got a little giddy inside! Honestly if I had the chance to meet any one person, it would be Heather and it happened! Yep, I’m a little quilt geek 🙂

The set up we have in Tek Serve is quite unique and eye catching! There are vintage cameras as far as the eye can see on one side. On the other side you will find vintage microphones and on the back wall Macintosh computers and Ipods, from throughout the years! Really there is just so much yumminess to look at!

There are so many amazing women in the group and oh my gosh, so much talent! The most amazing thing is, all of us came with design ideas and every single one of us has completely different ideas! Not to mention, I want them all to have their prints printed on fabric because they are so adorable and I NEED them!

We started the morning out by playing with sketches in our sketch book and then transferred them to the Mac’s. I decided to play around with my sketches of Bella, everyone needs some blonde scottie love right?

Sketches
Isn’t Heather’s donkey too cute! And Amiee’s hedgies are to die for!
Bella
This was the first round of miss priss, Bella. I think it quite suits her personality. I am so amazed how powerful  CS is and we are only scraping the surface of one program. There are just oodles of possibilities!
After a great first day, Amiee, RaePratima, and I regrouped for about 45mins before venturing to SOHO. This is where the fun began! And this is about how it went:
Me: Ok so lets get a taxi.
Them: Nah, the subway will be cheaper! Let just take the subway!
Me: Ew, I think I might die. I’ve never been on a subway. hahah
Them: We’re taking the subway!
Needless to say, 15min later, I was on the subway for my first ride!
Really I’m glad they convinced me. It was quite the experience and now I can say I’ve been on a subway before! Woo Hoo! Sarah is stepping into the real world! ha!
First subway ride!
Like I said….ew…a nose picker!!
We were women on a mission and raced straight to Purl soho! Yeah, I know you’re getting excited now! We were too!
Purl soho
For the second time in one day, I was overwhelmed with excitement and I wasn’t even inside yet!
Brace yourself for what you’re about to see!
There’s Rae!
Yep, the whole shop was pretty much heaven! It was packed full some of the best designer fabrics and yarn out there. I forgot to take a picture, but on the other side of the fabric section was Liberty! Rae convinced me to get some for a top pattern I have back at home waiting to try.
I’m so glad she did, the fabric is so soft and delicious! I’ve always seen Liberty online, but the price always scared me for not seeing it in person. I have a feeling more of this will be coming into my life!
I tried to be good and not completely blow my fabric diet, but of course I needed some quilting cotton too.
Purl was so Fantastic! Seriously, I was at a loss for words. So much good-ness in one shop! I wish we had a shop in NC like this. Actually, maybe it’s better that we don’t, I would never leave and never have any money! haha!
With a bit of time still left to spare before dinner with Heather, we poked around a few more shops that she had recommended for inspiration.
Dinner was wonderful and the conversations never ending. By the time we got back to our rooms I was so exhausted and sore from all the walking that I could barely move let alone keep my eyes open. You know it’s been a good day when that happens!

I’m just getting back from dinner with Heather, her husband, and the rest of the crew. I am do darn exhausted I can’t think. So I’ll hopefully be back in the morning to tell you about the rest of my adventures today, but for now I will wet your appetite with a few photos!

Heather Ross

This morning I was pleasantly awakened by the boy and a sweet reminder of my trip awaiting me just a few hours later. As I rolled out of bed I was still quite sleepy, but overly excited about the fun ahead, not to mention there was a yummy aroma of coffee lurking in the background. The boy is good like that, spoiling me with coffee already made and ready and creamer standing by. Coffee and a short, but enjoyable chat was about all I had time for before he was whisking me off to the airport.

I’ve been waiting months for this trip and it’s been a longggg wait! The day Heather announced she was going to be teaching her fabric design class in NYC in April I knew I was going, no ifs ands or buts! So today was finally the day, and I was off to New York!

The short 1.5hour plane ride was just enough time for me accomplish a few tasks at hand without being too long of a flight. Business cards were at the top of the list. I was able to get a nice handful of them sticker-ed together so they were ready to hand out.

Airplane entertainment!
Upon arriving I hopped in a shuttle with some what would turn out amazing, talented, and more than interesting individuals. During the ride we were given a nice taste of the city, just enough to wet my appetite. About 30 mins later I was at my destination, where I checked into the most adorable room and met up with one of my classmates, Amiee!
We were both starving from our travels so we rushed off for a quick lunch before we headed for the much talked about Garment District. I don’t think either of us could finish our lunches fast enough! Today we checked out Mood Fabrics and B&J Fabrics, which were both AMAZING!
Mood consisted on the stories of any type of fabric you could think of, from garment to upholstery and trim in between. Unfortunately the only thing they didn’t have was quilting cotton, but hey! That was still ok because Amiee and I were still in awe!

Every color chevron you could think of!!
And to top it off, they were shooting for Project Runway while we were there!
Our next destination was B&J Fabrics and I was in heaven! If any of you quilty folks are in NYC, this is one of the shops you HAVE to go to! They had amazing modern, designer laminates, voile, Japanese imports, AND quilting cotton! And I mean they had TONS! I was literally just standing and staring, so fabulous!

And yes, that is all quilting cotton! Drool…
I grabbed a few goodies to hold me off until I get to some other shops and see what they have, but I’m sure I’ll be venturing back to B&J!
 Some goodies
After our fabric adventures we headed towards Times Square, where ESPN was filming for the Madden 13 cover and we also had a run in with Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers quarter back. Kind of fun seeing a little NC in NY!

Our last excursion of the day was a quick tour around Central Park. And can I just say I am in love with the city. There is so much to do and see, it just makes me so excited! Not to mention tomorrow is the first day of class with Heather so check back for an update!

Blankies!

The blankies are here!!

I have been so excited to get this adorable new line up and rolling! Blankies by Bluprint are a cute, fun, funky, budget friendly line that is one of a kind and is sure to be loved by baby and mamma alike! I wanted to introduce a line that was cost effective yet just as cute as the rest of the quilts in the shop.

The blankies are actually still quilts, just smaller and from whole cloth. I have lovingly quilted and bound each and every one. And I made sure not to leave out a single detail! You’ll still find my signature pieced binding on all of the blankies. Sticking with my chic, urban, modern flair, these 30×30″ cuties are perfect for time in the stroller, carseat, tummy time, and any other activity for an infant!

Blankies are also the perfect baby shower gift and ready to be the next family heirloom!

You’ll find a print just as interesting on the back as you will on the front, making these blankies reversible. I’ll also be taking custom orders for blankies for multiples or if you don’t quite see the perfect one for your nursery!

Here are a few that are ready now!

These have been such a blast to make. It’s so nice to have a project that goes relatively quickly and smoothy once in a while. Chalk it up to instant gratification that you know we all like every now and then.
