Wow! So I am having an absolute blast here in NY! Heather Ross is seriously exactly how I imagined, chic, free spirit, and so down to earth! Not to mention she is absolutely hilarious. She makes you feel like you have known her forever. She is so fantastic to talk to and has a million stories to share.
Her helper Ava is also tagging along for the week. Ava is a 26 year old, techy, artistic, bundle of awesomeness! She lives in CA full time, but travels around and helps Heather out with her various workshops, how fun is that?!
I do have to admit as Rae, Amiee, and I stood in front of Tek Serve yesterday, we spotted Heather and Ava walking down the sidewalk towards us I got a little giddy inside! Honestly if I had the chance to meet any one person, it would be Heather and it happened! Yep, I’m a little quilt geek 🙂
The set up we have in Tek Serve is quite unique and eye catching! There are vintage cameras as far as the eye can see on one side. On the other side you will find vintage microphones and on the back wall Macintosh computers and Ipods, from throughout the years! Really there is just so much yumminess to look at!
There are so many amazing women in the group and oh my gosh, so much talent! The most amazing thing is, all of us came with design ideas and every single one of us has completely different ideas! Not to mention, I want them all to have their prints printed on fabric because they are so adorable and I NEED them!
We started the morning out by playing with sketches in our sketch book and then transferred them to the Mac’s. I decided to play around with my sketches of Bella, everyone needs some blonde scottie love right?
donkey too cute! And Amiee’s hedgies are to die for!
This was the first round of miss priss, Bella. I think it quite suits her personality. I am so amazed how powerful CS is and we are only scraping the surface of one program. There are just oodles of possibilities!
After a great first day, Amiee, Rae
, and I regrouped for about 45mins before venturing to SOHO. This is where the fun began! And this is about how it went:
Me: Ok so lets get a taxi.
Them: Nah, the subway will be cheaper! Let just take the subway!
Me: Ew, I think I might die. I’ve never been on a subway. hahah
Them: We’re taking the subway!
Needless to say, 15min later, I was on the subway for my first ride!
Really I’m glad they convinced me. It was quite the experience and now I can say I’ve been on a subway before! Woo Hoo! Sarah is stepping into the real world! ha!
Like I said….ew…a nose picker!!
We were women on a mission and raced straight to Purl soho
! Yeah, I know you’re getting excited now! We were too!
For the second time in one day, I was overwhelmed with excitement and I wasn’t even inside yet!
Brace yourself for what you’re about to see!
Yep, the whole shop was pretty much heaven! It was packed full some of the best designer fabrics and yarn out there. I forgot to take a picture, but on the other side of the fabric section was Liberty! Rae
convinced me to get some for a top pattern I have back at home waiting to try.
I’m so glad she did, the fabric is so soft and delicious! I’ve always seen Liberty online, but the price always scared me for not seeing it in person. I have a feeling more of this will be coming into my life!
I tried to be good and not completely blow my fabric diet, but of course I needed some quilting cotton too.
Purl was so Fantastic! Seriously, I was at a loss for words. So much good-ness in one shop! I wish we had a shop in NC like this. Actually, maybe it’s better that we don’t, I would never leave and never have any money! haha!
With a bit of time still left to spare before dinner with Heather
, we poked around a few more shops that she had recommended for inspiration.
Dinner was wonderful and the conversations never ending. By the time we got back to our rooms I was so exhausted and sore from all the walking that I could barely move let alone keep my eyes open. You know it’s been a good day when that happens!
