School’s Out!

Here we are rainy day (more like pouring) #5 in a row! So much rain in fact that schools are closed! I believe we have accumulated somewhere around 20 inches of rain and it just keeps coming. With both kiddos today, we’re spending a lazy day of watching movies and playing games. There will be no venturing out today as we usually do! It is just too darn windy and well, wet!

We watched Coroline this morning, which I must say is quite a cute movie! It even has Scotties in it (black ones though).

Oh! and did I mention that the wooden beach/Adirondack chairs even got blown into the sound. Yikes! Those will have to be fished out later! Hopefully they will lodge themselves in the muddy clam beds for the time being.

As any other rainy day, searching for design inspiration is a must!

More on that later!

As for last night, I finally almost finished all my 3×6 mini bee blocks! Then the power went out for 3 hours and I gave up for the night and went to bed. I’ll be getting those finished up this evening and hopefully in the mail tomorrow if the weather will ever let up!

Rainy Hump Day Stash??

The past two days have been quite interesting in the Virtual Quilting/Swapping world for me. As many of you are in Designer Fabric Swappy Poo group, many of us go ISO HTF fabrics. I too look for these HTF fabrics and ultimately posted in the topic pool for an upcoming project. The generosity of one poster led us to a LQS for the mono pez I was desperately in search of. I thank her so much for the tip! On the flip side, so many individuals pounced on the tip before I even had a chance for my project. humpf!

As I posted in the pool, I was a bit annoyed that I didn’t even get my hands on a FQ or so for the project I had intend and posted for before it was quickly sold out. This also brings me to the fact that I do not mind that others got in on the deal, but to my belief and many of others a someone has taken advantage of the situation and bought a WHOLE BOLT! Jesus! Thank perturbs me. Whew! I had to get that out!

I hate to think that the “swapping” group is being taken advantage of by some individuals, while the rest of us are just trying to get small bits and pieces for projects (not price gouging and resale). I hope to give the individual the benefit of the doubt that they REALLLLLLLY needed the whole bolt, unlike me REALLLLLLLY hoping and praying for even a scrap for my super awesome Echino quilt!

I believe this has been a lesson learned for many of us whom are angered by the situation that FM should be shared rather than in the public light. I however do not blame the tipper by any means, she had no idea it would run like wild fire.

However, there are also some super generous ladies out there that have kindly supplied me with the pez I need for the quilt! I cannot thank them enough!

On that note, my LQS has some pez of their own, unfortunately it is MULTI PEZ and not the mono pez I was looking for. But I am willing to share the information. If you are interested, please feel free send me a message on Flickr.

California Bound = Complete!

Wow! Where do I start?! This quilt has been quite a fun/restless adventure! We have had our ups and downs, well and around for that matter.

This queen size quilt all started from one of my fabulous customers. We melded our minds and inspiration together and this was the final product, Pure beauty I must say so myself.

As any other quilt I hate to see it go, but this one is especially hard to send off…even though I know it will be loved dearly! It’s like my baby, my first queen-size quilt (certainly not my last).

I have learned a lot from this quilt and this process. Like making sure I had enough fabric, finding more fabric, how to sew something this large, how to piece something this large, oh yeah and binding!

Actually the whole process went quite well. At times I thought that I never wanted to see Neptune fabric again, while other time I was dreaming about it.

Quilting it ended up being a breeze! I am ready to get another one finished and start quilting on it! It only took about 1:30-2hours to quilt (maybe that’s a long time for some of you more experienced quilters, but it seemed like great time to me!). On top of that, the quilt was quilted on my home sewing machine (Bernina 450).

I played around with the idea of sending it out to be quilted since I wasn’t sure I would be able to handle the bulk, but I am glad I stuck with it and finished everything myself!
